General News, Lonely Island

A bit of an interesting story found this weekend from Videogum. The article goes into saying that there is a new Taco Bell commercial that appears to be clearly ripping off The Lonely Island.

“Taco Bell has been struggling to figure out a way to best remind customers that they continue to serve up garbage nightmare food ever since Beverly Hills Chihuahua rendered their spokesdog irrelevant. “Yo quiero BRAND IDENTITY.”

Except, if you’re going to just rip someone off for your advertising, at least rip them off first, guys. Wendy’s ripped off the Lonely Island weeks ago*. YA BURNT**!”

I actually don’t know what to make of this article (which is linked below). If you lok at the commercial I don’t exactly see The Lonely Island plastered on it, but I suppose the concept of style in how it’s executed is perhaps like them, but it’s not like they are saying, “I’m on a Chalupa!” However if you refer back to the “Lazy Sunday” song they do refer to “It’s all about the Hamiltons, baby!” and this one’s referring to roosevelts, so maybe… but then again didn’t P Diddy start the whole thing with the whole about the Benjamins thing?

Here’s the commercial Videogum’s reporting as a rip off:

What do you guys think?
