Hey! Apologies for the little activity on thelonelyislandfan.com. Honestly it’s been a crazy past month at my job taking on some new responsibilities while losing our department director. It has bad and very good sides to it, but it’s been busy I’ll just say that! Plus I’ve been busy planning the final bits to my wedding I’m having next month before we go “on a boat” to have our honeymoon, ha! Which brings me to the subject of this post.

Because so much is being spent getting ready for the wedding and needing to pay for stuff and having other bills, I have decided to place on auction my personal Rod Kimble replica suit I made last Halloween. I have been getting a bunch of e-mails ranging from borrowing my suit to buying it or making another. I know how I would do it differently next time and perhaps down the road I might make another, but for now I think the best way to do it is to just throw it out there and let the world punch dance their rage over on Ebay.
So just in time for Halloween I will be giving up my personal costume replica of the Hot Rod stunt suit. I will have plenty of images as well as a possible video of it on the listing when it goes up. Of course I will post here when it officially hits the auctions. It is my hope that it will get enough to fund my next version of making another replica now that I have one of the real suits to reference.
And no, I’m not selling anything else

I’ve been getting numerous requests for where to find the pieces to make your own costume. I have a post in the prop and costumes section with all this information, but here’s a direct link to end any confusion:
Making a Hot Rod (Rod Kimble) Costume Replica
Thanks for the continued responses!

Where would you recommend looking for the basic jumpsuit? I’d like to try this, but don’t know where to find the suit to get started.

Hello! There was a posting that it would be up only a few days after announcing it was going for sale and it sold Sunday I believe. Sorry

The best one I found at the time was one located in my blog post called BC Textile Innovations in Canada. Bad thing is they require minimum $70 sale, but the nice part was the pockets and collar was done already.
There’s one that looks like it could be perfect, though it doesn’t say the brand of it, but I think you’ll agree that this one looks to be the best setup with minimal work! click here: directworkwear and scroll down to item D035. Looks to be the closest I’ve seen as a source suit.

I haven’t seen those in person, but looks like a good bet!
If you’re willing to sew on all the navy material into the suit the one pictured here:Redkap coveralls in postman blue should do the trick being full cotton and only $29.95. Beyond that I haven’t found much that is comparable

Thanks for posting our coverall information on your blog. I just want to add that we will waive our $70 minimum order for those wanting these coveralls for costumes. Thanks again to all who have ordered, we appreciate your postings and business.

I am going to be Kevin (Jorma) for Halloween.
I was going to be Rod, but I was too busy to make the costume, so I’m going to be Kevin, hopefully my TEAM ROD shirt comes before Thursday, or I’ll have to wear a polo shirt. LOL.

Hey, you mentioned that you had “one of the real suits” to reference. where did you come across the real one?
January 31st, 2010 at 8:53 pm
Yes! I obtained it through the official source who had them which was Premiere Props. They sell screen-used Paramount backlot items from the movies. They were auctioning off the remainder of what was left from the unsold items on Ebay and was the highest bidder to get one of the suits. I have been meaning to take some good photos of it and now that I do have it back out of storage I can do that.

Brendan- Would love to see pix when you get your suit done!
I have a whole post on the material sources which you can find here. I’ll post this link on this post since I seem to get a lot asking where you get the pieces to make it and the post being available. I guess maybe it’s buried on the site?
Thanks for looking! Any other questions please let me know.
