Rod’s (Andy Samberg) Hulkamania & Stunt Double Shirt

A fellow huge fan of Hot Rod has found the site and chimed in with some nice pictures of some screen-used props he acquired!  Green with jealous rage in his collection, he’s also got a signed poster from what looks to be the whole cast and crew from a contest Paramount Pictures held for people who could creatively make use of the Rod Kimble stunt flyers in their home town.

Kevin Powell’s (Jorma Taccone) Clipboard Sketches

These sketch pieces were used in the production of Hot Rod.  You can catch brief glimspes of these in a couple shots in the film and were used by Jorma during filming of the “Operation: Fiscal Jackhammer” montage.  These particular screen-used pieces are prints, but used on screen.

They were obtained originally from a private collector who got them from the Paramount pictures backlot “Hot Rod” prop offerings a long time ago.  A bit of an oddity of a prop, but nevertheless a very cool new addition!  This was obtained with an official COA from Premiere Props.

Rod Kimble’s (Andy Samberg) Toys

Okay so right about now you’re probably wondering where the heck these obscure pieces appeared in the film.  Well being the fan I am, I knew exactly where it came from the second I saw this bag of goodies.  There is a deleted scene in the film found on any format of the Hot Rod movie (DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) where Rod is playing with some of his toys in his bed room and playing out how his big jump is going to go.  You can actually find it on youtube (I’ve enclosed a video embed at the end of the post).

The coolest part about the mixed bag is it appears to have almost every toy in the shot (except a couple I noticed like the warrior that was sitting on the bike), but the main toy was in there which I was absolutely thrilled about that Andy used prominently during the scene:

They will be much more properly displayed in the future when I get space for them all, but for now that’s how it came.  Hope you enjoyed the post!  In the next day or so though I’ll be posting another Hot Rod screen used prop toted around by Jorma Taccone during the film.  Stay tuned!  I am always looking for Hot Rod screen used props!

Saturday Night Live has concluded its season and now it’s going to be a long summer before the new season starts up again with Lonely Island Digital Short goodness.

I guess this poses a question I have for the readers. Is there anything you’d like to see more of on this blog? The Hot Rod costume post seems to be one of my most viewed and asked about. I know it isn’t thorough in the start to finish instructions of how and where to get all the materials, but maybe people would like to see a more in depth instructional on making this costume from start to finish? Halloween is months away and I know people have been inquiring about it via e-mail.

I just don’t want to recycle previously reported stuff to you guys in a different form and make sure that whatever you are reading is new and unique from previous posts. I’m more a fan of quality over quantity.

Anyway hope everyone is well and having a good Summer so far. Take care and hope to see some comments from you!

If you didn’t know already, Universal Music seemed to like “Incredibad” so much that they’ve signed The Lonely Island for two more albums. I read that they cranked out a majority of their first album music during the Summer of 2008, so my guess is that they’ll probably be doing the same thing this Summer and then launching their second album early next year. Hopefully somewhere in between that they decide to launch a national tour of some kind. Here I am one of their biggest admirers of their work, have a bunch of signed items, and have yet to have met any of them in-person! It’s my hope to be able to meet them and maybe have my own interview with them in the near future. And I wouldn’t ask them questions most everyone now knows the answers to like “How did you guys meet?” I’ve seen about 10 interviews where that question was asked. Sheesh!

As far as films, I sure hope a signature Lonely Island movie is in the works. I think it would be totally off-the-wall hilarious as their Digital Shorts have consistently been over the last few years. Personally I’d be rooting for skipping making a “Hot Rod 2″ and just go for the gold and create the ultimate “Hot Rod 3-D!” experience (Yeah I know… ain’t gonna happen).

On the subject of “Hot Rod” I think the film is still the best comedy and I don’t care what anyone says. I think it was made a little too early though in terms of the mass audience really being aware of The Lonely Island’s presence in the mainstream and for that the film suffered at the box office. Had it been a film maybe coming out this year I think it would have fared a lot better monetarily, but then again there seems to be a huge awareness of the film out there. I’m surprised the people I’ve talked to have actually more seen it than not. Often if I mention it to someone in conversation I hear, “Oh my god! I love that movie!” For a film that didn’t do too well in theaters an awful lot of people have sure seen it! In the back of my mind I was hoping Andy would have made his entrance at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards as a cameo Rod Kimble on his moped.

All 3 have expressed that they really do enjoy where they are at now in their positions at SNL. I wonder how many years they are contracted to be there? I would think after they’re done with SNL and still want to be in television (as they seem to thoroughly enjoy) that they’d pretty easily get picked up to do their own show. I think the fan base and target audience is definitely there to make it successful.

I hope this wasn’t a boring post for all my readers. I would like to know what your thoughts have been and where you think things are headed next?
